Congestion in Rotterdam in 2015 lower than in Hamburg and Antwerp

Congestion around Rotterdam remains stable and is still considerably lower than that around the port cities of Antwerp and Hamburg. Especially on the motorways, Rotterdam scores a lot better. This is evident from the annual Traffic Index survey conducted by the traffic experts of TomTom.

Traffic decreased slightly in Rotterdam in recent years. Where the delay in traffic was still 24% in 2008, it has fallen to an average of 19% in 2015 over the years. In Antwerp, the delay in traffic increased from 21% in 2009 to 26% in 2015. Hamburg has been consistently leading the congestion ranking among port cities in recent years, increasing travel time by approximately a third. While congestion around the German port city reached some 28% in 2009, the average delay in traffic increased to 30% by 2015.

Motorways around Rotterdam less busy
Important for freight traffic is the delay to and from the port on the motorways. These figures show that with 12%, the congestion intensity on the Rotterdam motorways is significantly lower than the 25% in Hamburg and Antwerp.
